It's a New Day

It's a new day. Everyday is a chance to start new and fresh. I'm really feeling like that today. We had a good weekend in Lugano. Katrina has inspired me to do some thinking about fresh starts...starting something new. Here are several things I am working on:

- One thing I want to do is race my bike in the Cancellara Challenge next June. The Tour de Suisse ran this amateur bike race midday before the pros took the course. 200 riders of all shapes, sizes, and ages took to the road in 1 minute intervals on the 7.8km time trial course. I plan to do this next year.

- Train shows. Some of you may have read in an earlier blog about the new train layout room I will be constructing when we return home. While several years of working on a portable layout and taking it to shows has been a blast, its time to do something new. We've decided I will get the guest room to build a new, smaller layout. Plans are in development.

- Anyone who knows me knows that I am not a small man. I've struggled with my weight for most of my adult life. I've never really gone 'public' with this struggle, but I am now.
I've joined Weight Watchers online and have been tracking my food intake for a couple of weeks. I've even lost about 5 lbs. My plan while in Italy is to continue to enjoy the great food and drink of this country, but I will do so within my daily point allowance. I also plan to greatly decrease my intake of Coca Cola...sigh(which has been pretty high). I will continue to ride 4-5x a week when possible and hope to increase the mileage and intesity over time (I do have that time trial to train for next year!). This is difficult for me to write, but my goal is to lose 54lbs.
I will just take it one week at a time.

- I know I will be going back to work when we move home. I'm considering my options. I would like to continue working with event planning, but I also have some other ideas. Working in Brandon's classroom and with Ms Partridge has reminded me how much I love working with elementary age children. I'm not sure how or what or if I will follow this path, but I'm considering all options.

- I plan to have more fun in life. I've always been a fairly serious guy. Life is too short to take so much of life seriously. I need to have more fun. Being here in Italy has opened my dreams to a bigger world. I want to experience all that I can.

Today is a new day...
