About Me

I am a 45 year husband and dad, currently adjusting to life back in the United States after living in Italy for a little over two years. I love spending time with my family, cycling, model railroading, mosaics and watching TV and movies.

Fences and Walls

Italy is full of fences and walls.  Everything is behind fences or walls - houses, apartments, and parks just to name a few.

Why all the fences and walls?  Part of it is security.  Security is very important to Italians.  Most residences have a gate that includes a speaker phone and sometimes a camera.  I'm told theft is one of the biggest crimes in Italy.  It's hard to believe with all the fences, walls, security doors and alarm systems.

Here are some samples of the fences in our neighborhood:

Even in the parks, the playgrounds are often fenced in from the rest of the park.
