Como and Kandinsky

Italian Phrase - Il Vesuvio e' un famoso vulcano - Mount Vesuvius is a famous volcano.

Today's forecast is: sunny skies, high of 29c.

I slept in again today, waking to find Katrina journaling and looking at email on my laptop. Today we are driving to Como. We dressed, packed up and checked out, saying goodbye to Flavio.

Our drive to Como was gorgeous. The road is narrow in most places and very curvy. It takes awhile to drive due to the constant up and down, turning and slower speeds since most of the road is barely wide enough for two European cars. The views are amazing, or so Katrina tells me. I'm sure her photos will be posted in the near future.

We arrived in Como around 11:30 and made our way to Como Villa Olmo. They are hosting a Kandinsky exhibit through July 9th. Katrina has been wanting to visit and this was the perfect opportunity. Of course, no photography was allowed. We actually had to check Katrina's bag and our cameras, plus go through a metal detector just to enter. The exhibit had paintings from Chagall, Kandinsky and Malevic. We enjoyed it very much. Katrina really enjoyed the Kandinsky paintings. I liked a little bit from each of them.

We were hungry for lunch when we left the exhibit, so we decided to walk down the promenade to see what we could find to eat. The villas on this side of Como are huge and amazing.

We found a little Gelateria that made panini's. We took them and ate on the waterfront.

Time for drive home. We wanted to arrive home in time to relax before evening.

When we arrived home, Katrina took a nap and I worked on my blog. My first Model Railroader was waiting in the mailbox for me when we arrived home.

While working on my blog I received a text that the children were leaving the castle to head home and would arrive a little earlier than the planned 6:30pm. Katrina and I were looking forward to hearing all about Brandon's trip.

I walked over to school in time to meet the bus at 5pm. He was all smiles as he got off the bus. He talked about his trip all the way home. They went on hikes, made paint from berries and flowers, made instruments from nature, visited a church, and slept in a castle! He just drew a map of the castle for us. He loved it and hasn't stopped talking about it yet. Tomorrow we have to make paint out of some cherries we have on the counter.

This evening we went to the Pic-ment at Brandon's school. It's an end of year picnic and entertainment evening. The parent association provides meat and all the families bring a potluck dish. Since we were gone for three days, I walked over to our favorite Gelateria and bought cookies. They are very good cookies of all different varieties.

Brandon enjoying a hot dog.

We had a nice time at the picnic. Hot dogs and sausages and drinks were provided. The tables were full of all sorts of great looking food. I was not suprised since there are families from all over the world. We even had beer and wine at a school funtion! Very cool!

Some of the parents and students provided entertainment for everyone.
