About Me

I am a 45 year husband and dad, currently adjusting to life back in the United States after living in Italy for a little over two years. I love spending time with my family, cycling, model railroading, mosaics and watching TV and movies.

Friday!

Its finally Friday. It should be another nice day here in Vedano. The forecast calls for a high of 23c (76 degrees).

Ennio, the apartment owners father, came over this morning to help me figure a couple of things out and loan me a few tools. Late last week the hot water in our shower stopped working. We had hot water everywhere else in the apartment, but not in the shower. Thankfully our tub has a flexible shower nozzle for shower/baths. It turns out that the filter in the water line was clogged with sand.

We have two freezers in the kitchen. The usual one above the fridge, and another one beside the fridge. That extra one has not been working. Ennio checked it out and could not figure out why. He is going to call his daughter (who owns the apartment) and see what she knows. He also loaned me a few tools so that I can finish putting our chairs for the balcony together. Its difficult to figure out how to fix things around the apartment. So many things are different, so you don't know if you are just using something wrong or if it is truly not working. Then, all the appliance books are in Italian. I'm getting better at Italian, but not that good.

Street Sweepers. That seems like a dull subject, but it is rather interesting here in Italy. In Corvallis the street sweeper came along every 2 or 3 weeks to clean the streets, weaving in and around any cars or obstacles that might be in its way. Here in Italy they clean the streets once a week and you don't park on a street that is scheduled for cleaning. Every street has signs that tell you when the street sweeper is scheduled. You don't park on that street between the hours it says or you will be ticketed e38 - about $50.

I took a walk into Vedano to take care of a few errands. First stop was the post office to mail a letter for Brandon. No big deal and it only cost e.87 to send an envelope to Corvallis. Second stop was the Autodrome to try a another attempt at buying tickets for the Super Bike Championships. Today was much easier. They were selling tickets at the drive up gate. I walked up and asked, "Dove si comprano e due biglietti e Domenica?" (Where can I get 2 tickets for Sunday?) Right there. No problem Each frustrating day like yesterday seems to be followed by a day of finally figuring things out.

The wonders of computer technology contiunally amaze me. I just chatted with my cousin Regina who I have not seen in many years. She lives in Pittsburgh. My sister Heather and her were pretty much inseperable when we were kids.

Brandon was just showing me some notes he has learned on his recorder. He has learned Fsharp, low C and B. He's pretty excited about it.

This evening we went out for Mexican food! Mike met us there. We found two options in our area and ended up making a good choice. Mexicali on the other side of Parco di Monza turned out to be a great place. We enjoyed some good chips and salsa, margharitas, and real sour cream (we can't find sour cream anywhere!). Yummy food. We will definitely go back. We'll probably try fajitas next time. They looked really good.
