Its Wednesday. The forecast for today is: clouds and sun with a thunderstorm, high of 22c. It was sunny when we woke up. Brandon was excited about the possibility of a thunderstorm.
Italian phrase from our daily calendar: "L'Italia e' piena di opere d'arte." - Italy is full of works of art.
I usually sweep and mop the floors on at the beginning of the week, usually on Mondays. I finally got to it today. The entire apartment is tile and its amazing how dirty it gets in a week. I also started my daily load of laundry. It's a natural part of my daily routine now. Start a load in the morning, then take down and fold yesterdays laundry so that I can hang up todays laundry. Its really not that difficult of a job since the washing machine is pretty small. Usually a load of laundry is about 1 1/2 days of clothing and/or towels, etc.
I walked over the the Deutsche Bank near Brandon's school on my way to pick him up. I needed to pull some cash out to pay for his overnight field trip in June. On the way home we stopped at our favorite Gelattaria for a treat.
Picture frustrations. Katrina bought two large prints at IKEA last night. The first one is a black and white scene of Amsterdam with a red bike (see Katrina's blog for a pic). I found out when I hung it that all the walls in our apartment are constructed of block with a layer of plaster for the finish. Kind of hard to put a nail into. I managed in the living room, even with a used nail and a wrench for a hammer. Our tools are being shipped here. The second print is of the Golden Gate bridge. The background is black and white and the bridge is in color. Brandon spotted this one last time we were at IKEA and wanted it for his room. We suprised him with it last night. Now he wants to do a bridge theme on his walls. I tried to hang it this afternoon with less than stellar results. I managed to get a nail, another used one I found, into the wall. I hung the print, but as I was adjusting it the nail popped loose, along with a chunk of plaster. At least I was holding the print when it came loose. My new quest is to find a new hanging method for both pics and figure out how to repair the hole on Brandon's wall.
I made pasta with pomodoro sauce and melanzanna alla griglia con maggiroana (eggplant with marjoram sauce. We haven't had eggplant in a very long time. (I blame that on suspected food poisoning from an eggplant dish in Barbados when we were first married.) Anyway, we decided that we don't like the texture of eggplant, although the sauce was tasty.
It's warm this evening. We all played Wii for a bit and are just relaxing.
I know what you mean about bad-textured eggplant. Eggplant is very particular about it's freshness and method of cooking. The Italians do it well. Ask somebody's mother for some help.
