Winning a Pinarello FP0

Brandon was up early. I found him playing on Club Penguin when I woke up at 7:30am. Katrina slept about a half hour longer. Apparently, she didn't sleep very well last night. She blames it on the Coca Cola she had with dinner last night.

Brandon and I played Wii for awhile this morning. Later in the morning, after we were all ready for the day, we headed out for a few errands. Katrina wanted to look for a few clothing items at the Monza market. Brandon and I dropped her off and headed to the toy store. Brandon wanted to spend his allowance on a few more Lego streets for his town of Legano. On the way home we stopped for lunch at our neighborhood Cinese restaurant.

I can hear thunder as I write this. Dark clouds are moving in. Alright, there is the lightning. I love a good thunderstorm. I hope this develops into a nice one.

As I mentioned above, Katrina did not sleep very well. So, when we arrived home from lunch, she took a nap. Brandon began setting up his new Lego roads, which meant rearranging his town of Legano.

I headed back out to visit a bike shop in Muggio. This bike shop (I do not remember the name) was giving away four bikes by raffle: a road bike, a commuter bike, a cross bike, and a kids road bike - all from Pinarello. I had entered this contest at two other bike shops and come up empty. Early this week I received an email, in Italian, that I had won something. I thought I had figured out from my own translation that I had won some water bottles...

Well, I had a hard time finding this bike shop again. I searched for almost 45 minutes and finally decided that it wasn't worth anymore effort for free water bottles. I made a few turns to head back home and immediately thought I recognized the next cross street. I found the bike shop.

When I entered the store, I went to the water bottles to have a look. One of the employees asked if he could help me. I told him who I was and he recognized my name. He seemed too excited about giving me free water bottles. It turns out, I had won the Pinarello FP0, the kids road bike!! The price for this bike is about 620 euro!! I was in shock. I tried to explain that I thought I had won water bottles. He told me that they just wanted to know what color water bottle cage to put on the bike. My mixed up Italian!!

After getting lost trying to find my way back home, I entered our house with just the free water bottle they gave me. Brandon asked if there was anything else. I didn't say anything and headed out into the hallway to get the bike. Katrina suspected something. They were both quite surprised.

After making a few adjustments to fit the bike for Brandon, he and I headed outside for a test ride. This bike is far different than anything he has ridden before. It is lighter, more responsive, with dialed in shifting. Therefore, much faster. He rode around the loop path in Parco di Matteotti many times. The first couple of times were slow, but he speeded up as he became more comfortable. We'll do quite a few rides in Parco di Monza before we head out on the roads. He needs to be completely comfortable with this bike, like he is with his mtn bike, before we head into traffic.

Tonight we relaxed on the couch together and watched Escape to Witch Mountain on one of the movie channels.
