As I mentioned at the end of yesterdays post, I was almost rear ended by a semi yesterday.
I was heading north on the Autostrada. A toll booth was coming up in a 1000 meters or so. Just before the toll booth was an exit to Sesto. Apparently, the person two cars in front of me chose to exit then changed his mind at the last minute, pulling slowly back into the highway lanes. The car in front of me hit his brakes. I hit my brakes and looked in the mirror. All I saw was a big blue semi coming around the corner and right at me pretty darn fast. He hit his brakes. I hit the gas and pulled as far into the exit lane as I had room to go, which was only a few feet.
The semi finally stopped, but not before smoking all his tires and having his trailer partially fishtail into the left lane of the highway. He ended up stopped about 3 - 4 feet from the back of my car. All I could see in my rear view mirror was his grill and one headlight.
The suprising thing to me was that everyone just drove off as if nothing had ever happened. No car or truck horns were used. No visible cursing or gestures.
I guess it was just another day on the Italian Autostada.
