Rated 'B'...for Bidet

All the signs are different here in Italy. Some are easy to figure out, and some aren't.

We slept in a bit this morning. Brandon was the first one up. When I got up we watched some Scooby Doo. I haven't watched that in years.

It was cloudy out this morning. The forecast is calling for: warmer with a thunderstorm, high of 25c.

Sushi. I like your generic varities of sushi, like the many different sorts of 'roll's you can buy. Not too fishy. My favorite place to get this was at Aomatsu in Corvallis. If I was really in a hurry, I would get California rolls at Safeway, depending on how fresh they looked. A 9 piece California rolls dish at Safeway would usually cost about $5.99. Auchon has California rolls dishes. The difference is that you can watch them being made up fresh. The other difference is that a 9 piece dish will cost about e10, or $13.50!! Ouch. They don't have dishes with just California rolls. Usually it will be 5 or 6 with the rest being something with fish, eel or something else. I tried an eel sample the other day and almost lost my cookies right there. Yuck!

Bidet. Most Americans know what they are but few of us have given much thought to how they are used. Bidets are not common in the United States. In Italy you find bidets in almost every home and apartment, but not so much in public restrooms. Our apartment has one in each bathroom. I don't want to got into specifics, so if you would like to know how a bidet works, click on "Bidet". Don't worry, its only a link to Wikihow. One website mentioned that they are also used to wash feet or small babies. As for our bidets, all they have only been good for is collecting dust up to this point.

How was that for a sudden change of subject, from sushi to bidets! Life is interesting in Italy.

Katrina had to meet Olga at the government office in Vedano late this morning. There was more paperwork to fill out for our residency permits. In a week or so the police will be stopping by to verify that we actually live in our apartment.

This afternoon was spent hanging out at home. Brandon kept himself busy building a new cat apartment. I watched stage 8 of the Giro d'Italia. It was a pretty rainy and wet stage from Morbegno Austria to Bergamo Italy. Its only cloudy here in Vedano. Late in the afternoon I decided to scout out a hobby store we spotted in Brugherio. It was the first one I have been to that wasn't all diecast collectors cars. They specialized in RC cars, boats and helicopters. They did have a 'token' train set or two, but nothing really worth mentioning. They also had a nice supply of model ships. I've been thinking of building a model ship and they have one that I like. Its a 3 masted sailing ship, a nice wood kit that would probably take me two years to build! I'm going to think about it and look around a little more before I spend e99 on a kit.

We had a fun evening of chatting on Skype with several people. Katrina called her Mom first. Then we chatted with the Noel's. Brandon and Katrina gave them a tour of our apartment with the webcam. After that chat, Brandon decided he would call his buddy Chase in Texas. Its so cool that we can chat with our friends and family in the US for little or not cost.

We had beef burritos for dinner this evening. We finally found some sour cream. It made all the difference between a good burrito and a great burrito.

Katrina wanted gelato this evening. Brandon and I agreed to walk across the street and get the gelato. Katrina had fruiti di bosco and amarena. I had bacio and siciliana. Brandon had fruiti di bosco and fragola. No limone for Brandon this time. That is a first I think.
