About Me

I am a 45 year husband and dad, currently adjusting to life back in the United States after living in Italy for a little over two years. I love spending time with my family, cycling, model railroading, mosaics and watching TV and movies.

1/2 Day of School and Off to Ravenna

Brandon had his last half day of school today.  The teachers have 4 half planning days through the year.  Once he was out of school, we waited for Katrina to finish work and we headed out.

We headed southeast to Ravenna, Italy, about 3 1/2 hours from Vedano al Lambro, arriving around dinner time.  After circling the city center several times, we finally found our hotel.  Our GPS kept trying to take us down one way streets - the wrong way - and all sorts of pedestrian zones that just didn't seem right.

We finally got checked in and parked in the hotel courtyard, then relaxed the room, tired.  Brandon and I wanted dinner.  Katrina wasn't hungry since she ate a very late lunch.  Brandon and I found a nice little pizzeria just down the street.  He ordered a marinara and I had 4 Stagioni.  We also shared a capresi salad.  Yum!  This pizzeria makes good pizzas.

Back to our room to relax, the off to bed.  Tomorrow we explore Ravenna and its mosaics.

Chia-Pat

I got a long overdue haircut yesterday.  Apparently Claudio agreed that it was long overdue because I asked for short and he gave me really short.  I now call myself Chia-Pat.  Attention Kmart shoppers, right now on aisle 6 we have a limited supply of Chia-Pats on sale for half price.

Brandon had a classmate, Emilio, over after school today.  They had a great time and managed to not get on the computer even once.  We offered to take Emilio home, but didn't think about rush hour.  He lives 6 (about 3 miles) and it took 45 minutes through downtown Monza to get to his house, then another 45 to get home.  Ugh!  How do people handle commuting through traffic like that every day?

Busy School Day

I had my usual busy day at Brandon's school today - reading with grade 2 students, meeting with Mr Partridge, and reading with grade 5 students.  Wednesdays are always a pleasurable day for me.  Makes me think more about teaching, but my gosh, I'm so far away from a teaching degree.

Countdown

I had another productive morning in Monza.  I was able to get a new light fixture for one that is broken in our apartment.  I was also able to take care of more vet business.  Stevie needs to be current on his rabies shots, have an up to date health certificate and have a Pet Export certificate from Italy.

The big news today, which is both exciting and sad:  We are now at 100 days until we move home to Oregon.
