Permesso di Soggiorno Pickup

This morning we headed out at 7:30am to visit the local Carabinieri office in Monza.  Our Permesso di Soggiornos (permits to stay) were approved.  We can legally reside in Italy until 4/28/2013!

Our orignial Permessos expired in February and since we are staying until the end of June, we had to start the process of renewal to stay legal in Italy.  In the meantime we had to carry the renewal receipts in our passports.

The process of picking them up was easy but long.  We arrived around 7:50am and to find two Carabinieri officers (the state police) giving out number tickets.  We were #37.  When we looked at the counter display inside the office we realized we had a long wait.  The counter was starting at #44.  So, we had to wait until it hit 00 again then back up to 37.  This took until almost 10:30am.  Brandon and Katrina both brought books.  I just people watched.

When it was finally our turn, we headed to the open window.  The officer took our receipts, entered some info in the computer, found our new Permesso cards and checked our thumb prints to confirm our identities.  We walked out with new cards for each of us.

On the way home we stopped at the Vedano Saturday market to buy Speedy Pollo.  We fell in love with these tasty treats a few weeks ago.  They are basically chicken fingers with a tasty crunchy batter.  We bought 600 grams and divided them three ways for lunch.

This evening we had friends over for a taco dinner and to share stories about living in Italy and in China.  Our friends are an American family from Texas who just moved here from China.  We had a good time and the kids played with Legos in Brandon's room the whole night.
