About Me

I am a 45 year husband and dad, currently adjusting to life back in the United States after living in Italy for a little over two years. I love spending time with my family, cycling, model railroading, mosaics and watching TV and movies.

Happy Commercial Holiday...with a Little Love

Today is Valentine's Day, and yes it is celebrated in Italy, though it isn't as commercialized.  There are cards and flowers and chocolates and lingerie displays.  Yes, Italians love their lingerie stores.  But overall, it is a very low-key holiday.

Since we've been away from much of the commercialism that is so prevalent in the US, we sometimes even forget what holidays are coming up.  So many of our holidays seem to have evolved into a reason to buy and sell things.  I really don't miss that at all.  It's so much less of an issue here in Italy, although it is becoming more and more common.  Many Italians don't like this influence on their culture, and I don't blame them.

Anyway, today was a day spent mostly in bed or on the couch.  I have a sore throat and my ears are achy.
